Toy Camera Romsey

A day out in Romsey with my lovely FUJIFILM X-T1 using the toy camera advance filter setting.  Rather fun I thought!

A Lunchtime Walk

Yesterday the weather was so lovely that I went for a lunchtime walk in The New Forest.

The sky was blue, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and I lost count of how many brimstone butterflies I saw!

Here are a few photos from my walk.

Wonderful West Dean!

Back in July I spent four splendid days at the beautiful West Dean College attending a botanical watercolour painting course.

Our delightful tutor, Sandrine Maugy, showed us many techniques including her harmonic shadows underpainting.

We were based in the Orangery that had lovely light but was also very hot during the day.  Many flowers, fruits and vegetables freshly picked from the gardens were available to choose from as our subjects.  I decided to keep it simple and chose to paint a pink rose bud.

I was working wet-in-wet for the first time and was amazed at how I could move the paint around and achieve smooth graded washes and I was rather pleased with my finished painting.

I also painted a small chili pepper but I'm yet to finish it as I made a bit of a splodge in the wrong place which I need to try to remove before carrying on.  One for when I'm feeling more confident and brave I think!

The whole West Dean experience was amazing and it's certainly the first of many visits to come!

Welcome to my blog

Having taken up watercolour painting at the beginning of the year, I thought I would start this blog to track my progress.

I enjoy painting nature including flowers, leaves, shells, feathers, butterflies and anything else I come across from the natural world.

I am soon to spend a few days at West Dean College attending a botanical painting course and I'm really looking forward to spending this time concentrating on my painting and learning new techniques.

My spare time is also filled with landscape photography, art history, creating beaded jewellery and baking cakes, so they will feature on this blog too!
